Crete.

A Moslem fired at and narrowly missed Rear- Admiral Harris, com mander of the British second Mediterranean fleet in Cretan waters. The insurgents and the Turks are fighting oufcside Heraklion. Some 2000 insurgents have surrounded Sitia, and the Turkish commander expects an attack. The Admirals are removing the woman and children from Eishamos to a place of safety. The Porte has instructed the Foreign Embassies that it will protest against the Powers appointing the Governor of Crete, and also against the injustice of disarming the Moslems and not the Christians. The Admirals have blown up two blockhouses at Eissamos to prevent the insurgents occupying them. A delay in enforcing the decision of the Powers in regard to the blockade of Greece is being caused, owing to the chief burden falling upon the English fleet. The British Government is willing to bear equal shares with the other Powers. The first conflict between the Turkish and Greek force concentrated on the Turko-Grecian frontier has taken place. Fifteen hundred Greek irregulars crossed the frontier at Erania near Grevena. The Turks surrounded and attacked them, and the fighting lasted the entire day. The latest reports state that if the Greek regulars come to the support of the irregulars Edhem Pasha, the Turkish commande I*,1 *, will order a general advance. Whilst the British and Austrian warships were rescuing the Moslem refugees at Eissamos, the Cretan insurgents fired upon the boats. The warships responded by firing 80 shells.
