With reference to Sir John Willoughby's letter to the War Office, it was written with a view to prevent his fellow officers losing their commissions. The statement that the Imperial authorities authorised the expedition exceeded anything witness had said or implied. Sir John Willoughby, re-examined, stated that his legal adviser worded the letter sent to the War Offlee. His only object was to save the other officers. He concurred in Dr Jameson's evidence. Mr John Stratford Dugdale, Q.C, Recorder of Birmingham, has been appointed successor to Mr Justice Charles in the Queen's Bench Division.
