The Germans continue to send large shipments of war material to Souih Africa. A hundred tons is now being landed at Walvisch Bay. The delegates representing the Orange Free State consider that President Kruger'a demands in con nection with the question of oloser union of the Republics are excessive, and a deadlock has therefore occurred in the negotiations. President Kruger has aroused some criticism by remarking at a recent banquet that Queen Victoria was " a difficult wonuo," and in answer he explains that he had no intention of showing distespeot to Her Majesty.
