An Interesting Letter.
Daring his opening remarks to the jury at the trial of Herbert Allandala in the Supreme Oourt on a charge of being in possession o! houaebreaking implements, Mr Gully produced and put in a letter, which he stated was written by accused, and found on the person of Hmry Holland, who had already been confided of burglary and sentenced to five years imprisonment at this session of the Supreme Conrt. The letter war as follows : — •• WfdneHday, 6th January, 1897. —My dear friend.— l have just bad a terrible disappointments 1 went for what a fellow inside told me was a dead bird, and so help me, a team of horres could not pull it away. Then I thought I would drop acrosi country for a little plaice that I knew myself, and my good fortune followed me, for the job was a nice little one, and when I dropped into the only pub to get a bit of something to eat, who should be running it but the exscrew M'Cormaok. So I had to leave it alone, and I most now seek something else. If I can raise a few quid I want you to come away on Saturday afternoon. There is one place I know good for 20 or 80, but to do it neat it will require the two of ua.
" Now, we w^nt a few quid bad. for Foxton races are on the 22nd of this month, and while the town is •full of strangers is the proper time to Bend the big one down. So be sure and make ready to come with me on Saturday afternoon, You have had a very good spell now, and you must buckle to, for I find it terrihle.hard to pull through single-handed I may not turn op till Saturday, and I may come any hour, but whenever it is I will let you know without delay. No more at present. Accept beat wishes for yourself.— Your anxious friend, W. Lovell.
