The Primitive Methodist Garden Party.
A large number were present at the above which was held in Mrs Austin's grounds on Tuesday afternoon last. No doubt a great many more would bavo attended had tba state of the weather not seemed so threatening- However, everyone, big and little, seemed to- thoroughly enjoy themselves, and a very pleasant afternoon was spent. There were ; all sorts of gam«s for those inclined, such as quoits, tennis, shooting gallery, " putting the stone," " Old Aunt Sally," and some others. A game of cricket was also played, but only one iuniogs on each aide on< fortunately was completed, the S game thus ending in a draw. Messrs T. Mitchell, Betty, A. Kruse, E. r Osborne, 6. Simpson and A. Morgan played bfa r , fur their respective sides. Messrs T. West wood and E. Oaborrie 1 also bowled well. Tables were placed in convenient places loaded with all the tempting things to please the most fastidious, and the scat* placed in cloßft' proximity were soon taken when the party partook of tea at 6 p.m. Several speeches were made in reference to the pleasant gathering. The Rev. S. Barnett, Messrs 0. Austin, E. West wood, S. Howan and several ladies were very attentive, and helped to make the affair pass off so well. Placed on the shrubbery were articles for sale, made by the ladies of ibe congregation of the church, and Miss (j. Austin was kept very busy aelliog a 'nice assortmetiV of conteotiouery - needless to say the younger generation getting tbe greater portion. Mrs Austin's grounds are most suitable for suoh parties, and it presented a pretty site on that day. Tbe tennis lawn played well, and some capital games were indulged in by lovers of the game. It 13 pleasing to add that the funds of the church will be augmented to the extent of a little over £i, which is very creditable to all concerned.
