Dr Barnardo's Homes.
The October issue of Night and Day is interesting reading for all friends of " Dr. Baroardo'a Homes." It tells a wonderful tala of difficulties overcome, of steady progress in rescue work, and of marolloni results. The twin portraits of girlemigrants—on admission and after training— are alone a most remark* , able evidence to the value of suoh work as the Homes are doing. Firt thousand boys and girls under Dr Bartardb's care, and 31,000 reioues. in thirty years, are facts which speak for themselves as to the Institutional reoord. Just now it seems the children's purse -is exceptionally low, - and contributions are particularly needed to meet the new demands which are quickening the pulses of the work at the opening of the winter. We observe that among Dr Barnardo's " wants " are a sit* for a training ship, on shore, a set of school furniture, a pair of orntohes for a special case, and £1500 to buy a valuable property for the development of one of the branches of the Homes. On the. other hand the curious gifts received by him in aid of the work are legion, and clearly show that the homes have sympathisers in every quarter. of the civilised globe. H.R.H. the Prince of Wales has, we note, sent Dr Barnardo twenty-five guineas towards the fund whioh has been established to pay off existing mortgages on the buildings of the Institutions.
