« The ordinary monthly meeting was held yesterday afternoon at 2.80 o'clock. Present—The chairman (Cr. Y. 0. Ransom), and Ors. J. G. Wilson, T. Masters, H. Hammond and W. Taylor. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The correspondence received was read as follows-:— - From H. Behrenfc, offering £1 for the right to out grass seed on Main Drain Road. From E. Figgot, Shannon Ferry, saying the punt needed repairs. From H. Honour, Oroua Bridge, asking for permission to out grass from off road in front of his section, and enclosing £2 for same.- The applicant paid he did so to protect himself in case of fire, as the grass was very long. From Joseph Darragh, wishing C. Simpson's name substituted for his on rate-roll for section 87, Lee's Line. From Sarah Purkisf , wishing her name placed on rate-roll for section 1226 at Awahuri, in place of Margaret D. Garr. From J. J. Meldou, Oroua Bridge, objecting to a cutting that is about so be made on the Main Drain Road, is the water coming through would iffect his property. From M. Boyle, asking for refund )f deposit of £3. From W. J. Tucker, Rongotea, taking that the name of Tuoker Bros, be taken off rate-roll for seclions 35, 36, and 37, Te Kawau Hiding, and his substituted. From clerk Rangitikei County Council, saying the fording facilities it tbe Bulls Bridge i 3 receiving at* ention. The Treasurer' 3 report showed a tet debit balance of £676 Is 6d. The Tramway Manager's report howed a fair credit balance for the uonth, and the repairs to goods shed tas been a great convenience, as a \
large quantity of wool had been stored in the shed. The ranger reported that since the first of October he had impounded 169 head of cattle and horsei. Proposed by Or Ransom, seconded by Cr Taylor, That the offer of Mr Honour for grass seed on Main Drain Boad be accepted. Carried. Proposed by Cr. Wilson, seconded by Cr Masters, That the names of Sarah Purkiss for section 226, Awahuri'; Christopher Simpson for section 87, Oroua; William John Tucker, for 85, 86 and 87, Te Kawau, be placed on the rate-roll instead of Mrs Mrs M. Carter, Joseph Darragh, and Tucker Bros. Carried. A special meeting was then held to pass the following special order : Proposed by Cr Bansom, seconded by Cr Wilson, That the resolution passed at a special meeting held on the 10th Noyember, 1896, be now confirmed. The resolution is ai follows :— That it is the intention ol the Mcnawatu County Council by virtue of the provisions of " The Local Bodies Loans Act, 1886," and by virtue of a warrant issued under the hand of Bis Excellency the Governor in terms of Section 118 of "The Public Works Act, 1894," dated 2Srd June, 1896, authorising the construction (re-building) of the bridge over the Bangitikei River at the place where the main road from the township of Sanson to the township of Bulls crosses the Baid river, aod apportioning the cost of such work, to borrow the sum of £700 under " The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886," for tho purpose of providing proportion of ihe cost of re-building the Baid bridge and expenses in conneotion therewith. And that a special rate of one seventy-fifth of a penny in the £ bs made and levied on the value of ' nil rateable property within the County of Manawatu for the purpose of providing the interest and sinking fund on the said loan of £700, such rate to be an annual reourring rate for a period of twenty-six years, payable in one mm on the let day of April in eaoh year. The above special order to take effect from the 10th December, 1896. The Council resumed its ordinary sitting. Proposed by Cr Wilson, seconded by Cr Masters, That the Chairman be empowered to let the cutting of the grass on the various roads of the County.—- Carried. Proposed by Cr Taylor, seconded by Cr Hammond, That after the Chairman making all enquiries poi* sible in reference to Boyle's deposit amounting to £3, and being satisfied that the amount has not been re» funded in due course, instruct the Clerk to 1 do so. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Wilson, seconded * by Cr Taylor, That the tender of 1. H. J. Bowater of £1 Is 9d be . accepted for metalling on Mount Stewart Road. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Ransom, seconded Cr Wilson, That the County Office be closed from December 28rd to January 3rd, 1897.— Carried. The Overseer's report and monthly accounts were passed for payment, and the Council adjourned.
