Bird Nuisance.
I » The Mayor has made mention of the bird nuisance in this district, but though desirous of doing something did not see his way to give effect to it. At the last meeting he obtained full information from the Agricul tural Department as to how grain oould be poisoned, and also that those who needed it would have to procure it at their own expense, at least the Department would not provide it. It will be of interest to the public to know that there is " The Birds Nuisance Act, 1891," and under its powers a local authority may by an ordinary resolution apply so much as they shall think fit out of their general funds towards the destruction of any kinds of birds which by their habits or by their extensive increase, have become, or threaten to become injurious. Some ■uch grant has for years been made by the Manawatu County Council, and it would have been well had our local Council looked into this Act a little earlier in the season, for now, summer being nigh, there is np opportunity to poison wholesale, Perhaps some of our public men will keep this in view in the sweet by-and-bye, and if the overdraft is not then too large, a grant may be made.
