Flax.

Mr J. G. Wilson was to have asked yesterday the Minister for Agriculture, if he has noticed that a German called Gomess has invented a process to economically dress the Indian Ramie, grass ; and will he make inquiries with a view to testiug whether the same process might not succeed with Phormum tenox?

We have already given a rough explanation of this process, being the use of a weak solution of some acid. Mr J. G. Wiifton informs us that the probability of this process proving of advantage if applied to the Phortnium tenax is borne out by the information given him by Mr Blake, a late member of the House, whose brother, when oamping out in the Hot Springs district, during the erection of the Telegraph line, found a spring in which he left a piece of flax all night, when the uext morning on taking it out the whole of the vegetation was stripped off, leaving the fibre perfectly cl*an and fit for use. He tried to get the spring analysed, but the chemist employed could discover nothing particular in its constituents.
