During the coming Presidential election in the United States, the above is likely to be a frequent question, as it is reported : This year the campaign hat ig to be a great feature of the public displays. Hate with waving plumes, after tha manner of Henry of Navarre ; hats garnished with red bandanas, and hoti with bannerets for cockades of former elections must give way this year to hats of many colours. The hatters exhibit rows of wax figures in their various stores. There is the gold figure with its yellow hat, and the silver dummy in hodden grey and silvery chapeau. The " free silver hat " is made of soft grey wool, trimmed with silver cord and tassels. On the yellow hats of various shades the gilt bands are stamped with thß words •' Protection " or " Gold Standard." The out-and-eut McKinleyite3 will wear broad far toppers of different shades lined with silk embossed with McKiDley's portrait, and inscribed — '♦ Champion of Americau Indus tries." Then there is what is called the McKinley Napoleonic," which is described as " a standard hat designed far Republicans." It is a model of the three-cornered hat worn by Napoleon the Great. Some of these hats bear the legend con spicuously display ed, " Protection to American Wool Growers." Beaides these there is tho old Con Linentel hat and sundry others, including " the cyclist's compaigning cap." The Times Herald of Chicago contains a page of cuts and descriptions of this novel head gear.
