Dr Barnardo's Homes.

Dr Barnardo devotes the major part of his August Alght and Bay, just to hand, to a very full, interesting and attractively illustrated account of the Thirtieth Anniversary of his Homes, celebrated in the Royal Albert Hall. Their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Wales were present on the occasion ; and the Prince, in a capital little speech, warmly commended the operations of " this beneficienfc and national work " to the sympathies of the public. We have seldom read of such an influential and representative platform in connection wti h auy charitable movement. 'The exhibition of Institutional activities appears to have been remarkably wide and thorough, and the Homes must have, to all the ppeotators, amply justified the thirty years of their existence. They have at. present five thousand children under their care, admitted solely on the ground of destitution, and their rescues now total over thirty thousand. We note that the new fund jet on foot, to commemorate the thirtieth year of tho Homes, has reached £18,000 out of the £150,000 required. As usual Dr Barnardo has much to tell of the doings of the Home?. A General Self Denial Week for the benefit of the work is announced for 16th to 22nd August. 254 emigrants ha va just been sent -to Canada, making 463 for the year, and 8511 since the work of emigration began. An interim report of the Street Collection, which took place on behalf of the Homes in July last, shows that £3700 has been already received from this source, with more to follow. A special appeal is made to friends and subscribers for £800 to enable the Homes to claim a legacy of the like amount which has been left conditionally to the Institutions. Just now the work is burdened with many claims, and we are sure that contributions during the summer " dead season " will be more than usually welcome. Dr Barnardo sits at the receipt of custom at 18 to 26, Stepney Causeway, London, E. ■"
