Two French battleships and two cruisers are to be sent to reinforce the squadron in Levant. The occupation of Syria is mooted in Paris. Four German warships have suddenly been sent to the Levant. A thousand Armenians have been massacred in Kharput recently. The Neve Weiner Tageblatt declares that Europe is opposed to either Russia or Great Britain taking isolated action with regard to reforms in Turkey. The European newspapers regard Mr Gladstone's scheme respecting Armenia to be useless and dangerous.
