London.
Mr Gladstone addressed a public meeting in Liverpool on the Armenian question, when fully 4000 people were present, and the Earl of Derby presided. He urged the suspension of relations with Turkey if a peremptory demand failed. If Great Britain, he said, passed a self-deny-ing ordinance before acting separately it would remove any chance of Europe going to war, as tha concert of Furope in the matter had proved a failure, and wholesale massacre, instead of reforms, had bnen paraded before the Embassies, while treaties were broken and provinces were desolated. With due prudence war could be avoided, but they were entitled to threaten and coerca the Sultan for the breaches of special treaties with Great Britain. In conclusion, Mr Gladstone said he did not believe Europe would fight to ensure the continued massacre of the Armenians. A resolution was carried amid cheers supporting the efforts of the British Government to secure protection for the Armenians.
