Solomon Island Outrage.
News has been received in Sydney that the natives of the Solomon Islands have massacred Baron Foullooe Yon Norbeck, the noted scientist. Midshipman De Beauford, two bluejackets belonging to the Austrian man-o'-war Albatross, and a native guide. Four other sailors were seriously wounded and two slightly. Baron Von Norbeck was leading a scientific expedition, and landed at the Island of Guadalcanal where the natives attacked and speared the party. Details of the massacre so far are meagre. The news was contained in a telegram received by tho Admiral from Mr Woodford, Deputy High Commissioner of the Solomon 3. It was forwarded to Gooktown by a ~~ specially chartered schooner. Baron Foullone you Norbeck and party were exploring the interior of the island at tho time. j Mr Woodford headed the expedition which brought back the wounded. A eecond expedition to recover the dead bodies failed in its object. The warship Pylades has gone to the scene. The Albatross was placed at the Baron's disposal by the Austrian Government. for the purpose of scientific research, and had been cruising among the islands since May last.
