Time and Opportunity.

Drama the next month or two we shall be visited by gentlemen who will profess their moat earnest desire to do allthat we may desire, and it would seem a pity not to be ready to pub their offers to the teak. We do not here propose to touob upon the question of Party, for the electors are pretty evenly divided in their political views, and will, no doubt, probe the qualifications of the various candidates to the bottom, to make sure that it is wise to give them a vote. Whilst we have all agreed to differ, just as it may suit us, on politics pure and simple, we would be wise to agree amongst ourselves as to certain matters that need attention as particularly affecting this t iwn and district. Though possibly whatever we may ask will not be refused by the candidates, it is not unlikely that the successful candidate will be able to secure the fulfilment of them, and therefore we should exercise both caution and reasonableness in shaping our requests. We do not propose to discuss this question, but merely to suggest one or two subjects upon which the whole of the electors in the district are likely to be unanimous upon. We therefore think that each candidate should pledge himself to do his best to move the Government to content to the formation of the Levin-Greatford railway; and also to obtain a pound for pound subsidy from the Government for the erection of a biidge over the Manawatu Biver ; and also to insist upon a good stock track being formed, as urged by us four years ago, across the ranges from Shannon to the Wairarapa. Theße are wants which, while benefiting the settlers, will be of use to every colonist, and are important works which ought to have been done long ago. We fancy that the chairman of our improvement committee should be charged with the duty of asking the candU dates their views on these matters, and perhaps the committee may take

our suggestions up. It is as well that candidates should understand that the strongest voting power is at this end of the district, though as to the above questions it little matters.
