Tho Clyde strike has been finally settled. The result of the Borough election polling is notified to-day. A preliminary notioe is inserted to-day of the well-known horse, The Artist. The Borough Council invite tenders for road formation. The rebellion in the Philippine Islands is spreading. Mr Bruce notifies that he is a candidate for the representation of this electorate in Parliament in the Opposition interest. Mr Kellow has an advertisement in this issue notifying his intention to contest this electorate. An inspection is invited of the new spring goods just opened at Mr F. Loveday's establishment. The Bon Marche. A large crowd attended at the Waterloo Railway Station, London, to bid farewell to the Australian cricketers. The annual meeting of the Manawatu Bowing Club will be held at Whyte's Hotel on Monday evening. The Spanish Government has purchased from the British Government an ironclad at a cost of £250,000, and a cruiser costing £315,000 ; also another 20 knot cruiser. There are on view at a shop in PalraerBton two gigantio lemons grown by a Celestial at Otaki. Each of the lemons weighed 2|lbs and were grown from seed obtained from China. Judge Kettle gave judgment in Wanganui in a case of great interest to the medical fraternity on Saturday, when Tuku Wunu claimed from H. Dierks £500 damages for alleged unskilful surgical treatment. Judgment was given for £50 and costs. The Standard says Mr A. K. Btundell, who has been Stock Inspector at Palmerston for three years and nine months, received intimation yesterday of hia promotion to Wanganui, where he shortly takes the position recently vacated by Mr Hull. Last week the Levin people enjoyed themselves in witnessing a meeting of the Domain Board,- and the arguments between certain deputations and the Board. Very warm worda passed between Mr Stuokey, the chairman, and Mr Hector Davidson. We trust peace will soon be restored in Levin.
