Lady Glasgow held a large Reception last Thursday afternoon from 4 to 6 o'clock. The large rooms were prettily decorated for the occassion with flowers, pot plants, etc., and tea, coffee and cakes were laid oat in the diningroom. Lady Glasgow received with His Excellency, and wore a beautiful gown of dark blue silk brocaded in a large design with pale blue, and softened at the throat with a ruffle of lace ; the Ladies Augusta and Alice Boyle were helping to entertain, and looked very nice in soft grey crepon trimmed with shot silk to match, and lace. Among those present, I noticed were Mrs G. The Hall was splendidly decorated with flags, nikau palms, and large framed photographs of the different yachts were hung about the walls. Minifie'a band supplied the music. Supper, a sit down one, was laid out upstairs, the long tables being prettily decorated. The Governor and Lady Glasgow, accompanied by Lady Helen Boyle, the Ladies Augusta and Alice Boyle, Major Elliott and Captain Preston arrived at about 9 o'clock, and were received at the entrance by Mr E. W. Mills, Commodore of the Club, Mr G. Mee (Vice Commodore), and Mrs Mee, who presented Lady Glasgow with a lovely bouquet. Lady. Glasgow has issued invitations for a juvenile dance to take place next Friday night. It is to be given chiefly, I believe, for the school football teams, which will be here next week, viz., the Chriats College team, Christohurch, and the Wanganui Collegiate School team. The Hon. James Boyle will be playing in the latter team, I hear. The Floral Fete which was given - some weeks ago at the At Home given by Lady Glasgow and Mrs Jelliooe, is to be repeated next Thursday night, this time in aid of the Old Men's Home. A very large audience is expected, as every ticket is already sold. Another attraction will be the skirt dancing of Miss Elsie Bell, of Dunedin, and Miss Nairn, of Hawke'a Bay. Both these young ladies have been well trained in this graceful art. The ladies New Zealand Golf Championship meeting is to take place next week, and is to be played on the Miramar Links. Over twelve ladies from the South wifl be playifig, and several from the Hutt. I
hear that there are to be two or three dances given in honor of the visitors. 11 Trilby " is here, and is drawing large audiences every night at the Opera House. Siona.
