The force under Captain Anderson, which burned Makoni's kraal and killed 200 of the enemy, surprised .. the impi, the first intimation the natives had of the attack being the bursting of shells in their kraal. . Many escaped to caves, whence it 13 impossible to dislodge them. Captain Haynes, of the Engineers, was killed during the attack. Reports from Fort Salisbury staid that there is no frash meat there, and little flour.
The time within which a pardon will be granted to all rebels who come in has been extended to 28th September.
Captain Baden Powell reports that the impi-i are broken up into detached bands, and are willing to surrender. Two strongholds have already yielded.
