The New County Clerk.
*. Last Friday's Wanganui ChaonieU contains the following:— Mr Fred Purnell, son of our respected Town Clerk, leaves Wanganui to-day to take up his appointment as Clerk to the Manawatu County Council. Mr Purnell will carry with him the respect and good wishes of a large circle of friends, who esteem him highly for his many genuine qualities. Capable and conscientious, industrious and attentive to duty, and pleasant and unassuming in manner, he is a model officer for a public body to possess, and we congratulate the Manawatu County Council not less upon securing his services than we do Mr Purnell upon receiving the appointment. A very large gathering of Mr Purnell 's friends met at Messrs Freeman B. Jackson and Co's rooms last meeting to wieh him good bye, and make a small presentation to him in recognition of his services in football and athletic matters generally in Wanganui. Mr Andrew Thomson was voted to the chair, and presented Mr Purnell with a handsome gold hunting lever watch (Botheram), and wished him every success in his new sphere of life. Mr Purnell suitably acknowledged the presentation.
