Foxton Borough Council.
The usual meeting of the Borough Counoil was held at the Library buildings yesterday at 2 p.m. Presets —The Mayor (G. Nye), Crs Walsh, Osborne, Bradcock, Border, Westwood and Hennessy.
The minutes of the past meeting were read and confirmed.
The Poundkeeper's Report was laid on the table.
The Balance sheet of the Borough duly audited was laid on the table.
CORRESPONDENCE .
From Land Tax Department, that a voucher had been passed for balance of subsidy, £20 93 sd, making a total of £80 9s sd. J. Rutherford giving up lease of land used for a site for flaxmill.
PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE REPORT
Your Committee have to report that during the last month the contracts of Messrs Nelson and Andrews' have been completed and passed on the No. 6 Line and part Cemetery Road.
The daymen have been generally employed on the various roads and drains and have also fenced off about 9 chains of drain on No. 2 Line and protected the drain which was always filled up by stray cattle getting into the drain, also removing culverts and repairing same on the No 6 Line from Easton's to the Moutoa road.

Guerin, £4 13s 4d ; J. McGill, £1 ; Synions Bros., £2 3s 6d ; Municipal Association of N.Z., £2 2? ; Hennessy & Co., £2 13s; Charitable Aid, £3 16s 4d. Library account — H. Blake, 16s 8d ; W. B. Rhodes, 143 ; B. Spelman, £3 17s. The following resolutions wera passed : — Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Or Border, That Crs Oiborne and Hennessy initial all corrections and alterations in the Rate Book and also sign the Bate Book. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Border, That the Balancesheets for year and half-year ending 31st March, 1896, as certified to by the Auditor-General be passed and signed by the Mayor and that 50 copies of the Balance-sheet be printed.
Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Or Border, That the Inspector of Works employ extra labour to plant the Foxton Sanitorium reserve.
The Mayor said thia work must be done either this month or next. He would recommend the sandhills being first covered with sand-binding grass. Cr Weßtwood wanted to know whether Councillors would inour any liability by spending money at the heads.
The Mayor said the belt could be set apart for planting. The motion was withdrawn.
Proposed by Cr Walsh, seconded by Cr O3berne, That the name of Stephen Startup be substituted for H. T. McCloskey in the Kate Book for part section 110. Proposed by Or Osborne, seconded by Or Hennessy, That the Clerk write to the Commissioner of Crown Lands re leasing Wharangi Reserve and if the Commissioner will undertake to transfer to the Foxton Borough Council a lease of the Reserve belt this Council take immediate action to effect improvements such as planting, &c.
Or Hennessy suggested that other men, instead of the regular daymen be employed in getting up this binding-grass. The Mayor agreed to this and said that there "would be two extra men employed. The Council then adjourned.
