The End of the Transvaal Invasion.
In the High Court of Justice, London, on Wednesday, before the Lord Chief Justice, Baron Pollock, and Mr Justice Hawkins, Dr Jameson, Sir Joha Willoughby, Colonel Grey, Colonel White and Captain C. J. Coventry, officers of the expedition into the Transvaal which led to the battle of Krugersdorp, were found guilty upon the charge of making war against a foreign State then at peace with England. In summing up Lord Russell said that the main question was : Were the defendants engaged in military expedition against the Transvaal ? The jury found the accused guilty on all'counts, but added a. rider that the excited state of Johannesburg at the time constituted great provocation.
The following sentences were imposed : — Dr Jameßon, 15 months' imprisonment.
Sir John Willoughby, 10 months. Major White, seven moDths. Colonel Grey and Captain Coventry, five months.
None of the sentences carry with them hard labour.
