Foxton Racing Club.
Tha annual general meeting of the above Club was held at the Club's offioe, Foxton, on Tuesday night. There was not a very good attendance. Mr Thynne, Vice-President, was voted to the chair.
The minutes of the last annual meeting was read and confirmed. - The Secretary, Mr J. R. Whyte, read the following Report and Balance-sheet. REPORT. Your Committee have the pleasure of submitting the annual statements of receipts and expenditure for the year ending 80th June, 1896, and again have to congratulate members on a most successful year.
The receipts from all sources, including a balance, from the previous year, of £61 83 4d, amount to 4782 11a Id, and the expenditure, the principal items being printing, advertising, labor and improvements on course, salaries, etc., amount to £654 10s 9d, leaving a credit balance of £128 03 4d (this does not include the sum of £55 outstanding to the Club.)
Daring the season only one day's racing was held and £390 given away in stakes, being the largest amount given away by this Club for one day's racing. Several improvements have been done on the course, the course proper having been harrowed and sown, a picquet fence erected at the northern entrance and other improvements which will be found beneficial to the Club.
In conclusion, your Committee would like to place on record its appreciation of the valuable support accorded to the Club by its officials and now retire according to rule. BALANCE SHEET. Receipts. On the motion of Mr Ahern, seconded by Mr Walter Robinson, the Secretary's honorarium was fixed at £80 for the year.
On the motion of Mr W. T. Little seconded by Mr Hamer, it
was agreed that the subscription be reduced to ten shillings and sixpence for the coming year, as an experiment.
A vote of thanks to the officers of the club for their services for the past year was moved by Mr Thynne who took the opportunity of complimenting Mr Whyte on the manner he had carried on the business of the Club. It had always been said that the Club had good Secretary's and he thought members were to be congratulated at having selected one more good man. Mr Thynne also referred to the finances of the Club as shown by the balance-sheet, where it would be observed that Mr Whyte entered into office with a credit balance of £61 from which J620 was immediately withdrawn by resolution of last meeting, so that he had only £40 to deal with, and this year he shows £128 in the Bank, thus showing £80 for the better. There were also as good assets some £i5 outstanding. The Club could 'herefore be heartily congratulated on their financial position.
Mr Easton seconded the motion which on being put was carried.
Mr A. E. T.Nixon was authorised, as Treasurer, to sign cheques. This closed the business of the meeting.
