Mr Chamberlain, replying to a question in the House of Commons, said that certain alarming reports which were in circulation that reinforcements were required for Matabeleland were without foundation, as Major-General Carrington, commander of the forces operating against the natives, had cabled so late Saturday last that the present troop 3 were sufficient. Many settlers, along with their wives and families, are leaving Rhodesia.
