Wednesday. An amendment made by the Legislative Council limiting the time of prosecution under the Criminal Code Bill to one month, instead of two, was agreed to. Major Richardson, of Napier, and Dr Giles, of Auckland, were appointed unofficial Representation Commissioners for the North Island ; and Mr T. S. Weston, ex-District Judge, of Canterbury, and Dr John Hislop, of Otago, were appointed unofficial Representation Commissioners for tbe Middle Island, including Stewart Island, in terms of the Representation Act Amendment Act, 1896. The Totalisator Abolition Bill was read a second time on division by 34 to 25. The Restraint of Incitements to Betting Bill was read a saoond time. The Property Law Consolidation Act Amendment Bill and also Coal Mines Act Amendment Bill were read a second time. The Canterbury College Bill completed its passage through committee " and was then reported with amend* ! menls. Thubsday. The Wesleyan Methodist Church Property Trust Act, 1887, Further Amendment Bill, the Female Law Practitioners Bill, Deceased * Husband's Brother's Marriage Bill were read a third and passed. The Public Morgues Bill was read a second time. The Criminal Code Act 1899 Amendment Bill passed ttapagb committee. T.h3 Limitation of Power of Disposition by Will Bill was considered in committee and progress reported. The Stock Act Amendment Bill, and the Bill for the abolishment of capital punishment were thrown out.
