Chess and Draughts Club.

Last night was a gala night at the Chess and Draughts C üb, it being the occasion of the first match of the season. A team of three, Messrs E. and W. Howe and McCosh having braved the floods "to fight the local men at draughts. It was arranged that the play should bo from 8 to 10 30 p.m., and all games unfinished at the latter hour to be deemed a draw. The Club, after the play, entertained their guests at a tea and coffee supper, supplied by Mr Kerr in his usual excellent style. The visitors appeared pleased with the attention paid them,' and probably some little speechmaking would have been indulged in, only at the conclusion of the sapper one of tbe members had a choking fit, which, for the moment, assumed alarming symptoms, until Mr Hamer, who was prtßent, extracted the obstruction from the throat.
