The Why and the Wherefore.

By the courtesy of Mr J. Hillary, we are enabled to give publicity to a small fact which may however help to elucidate the sets of the current?. On. the third cf this month Mr Hillary noticed something floating in the river, and on securing it, found it to be a bottle. ' The inside did not, unfortunately for the finder, contain whisky, or we should probably have heard little about it, but a faded Wellington and Manawatu Bailway Company's consignment note on which waa written, "-thrown off Manawatu bar 16/12/95." Nothing much, but the event is worth recording.
