Town Band.
A public meetiDg was held last night in the Sample Rooms of Whyte's Hotel. There was a fair attendance, and Mr Betty was voted to the chair. Ihe chairman slated that the meeting was called for the purpose of re-forming the Foxton I'own Band. He informed ihe meeting that all the instruments with the exception of two were still in the town, also the greater portion of the music. Mr P. Dudaon wished to know whether the instruments were pri* vate property or belonged to the town. Mr Betty explained that under Ihe by-laws of the band they belonged to the band until it broke tip, after which they were to be sold and the proceeds distributed among the members, but members leaving the j district bad no right to take any instrument away with them. Mr Dudson suggested that all the instruments be called in, and start the band afresh. Thia suggestion was afterwards proposed, seconded and carried. Mr Betty was elected secretary pro tern, and was instructed to write to the Levin and Sandon bands for a copy of their rules and by-laws. The following were elected a working committee :— Messrs 0. Englebriotsen, Proctor, Bstty, C. Austin, A. Spring and Hatfield, with power to add to their number. j A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the meeting. j
