4 The usual monthly meetiug of the above Council was held at the Council Chambers, Sanson, on Wednesday. Present — Crs Ransom (chairman), Hammond, Taylor, Wilson, Robinson, Masters and Strang. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The following inward correspondence was read and considered : — From the Department of Lands and Survey, . <? erection of bridge over tbe Rangitikei river at Bulls and charging the Manawatu Council with seven seventeenths of cost of construction. From the Sluggish River Drain* age Board, forwarding plan of land taken for road and drainage purposes. From the Horseshoe Drainage Board asking Council to enlarge the culvert on Willow Drain and charge Horseshoe Board with cost of same. From H. Rockell, re burning ot the Carnarvon School fence and requesting the Council to re-erect the same. From J. R. Whyte, asking Coun* cil to repair road leading to section 453. The following resolutions were agreed to :— Proposed by Cr Ransom, seconded by Cr Wilson, " That the request of the Horseshoe Drainage Board be granted in terms of the chairman's letter. Proposed by Cr Ransom, seconded by Cr Robinson, " That the road to the Church of England, Rongotea, be metalled provided it is done in terma of Mr Davis' letter to the Council. by Cr Robinson, seconded by Cr Ransom, " That tenders be called for forming road at Oroua Bridge, tenders to be in by next meeting. Proposed by Cr Wilson, seconded by Cr Ransom, "That aa Mr McKerrow, the expert appointed by Government to inspect the Levin* Greatford railway route, has been over the line, the secretary be instructed to write to the Premier asking that the Council be supplied with a copy of the report, and whether the Premier will now grant the request put forward by the deputation which waited on him on the subject. A letter was handed in by Cr Strang, resigning his seat for the Awahou Riding. Proposed by Cr Ransom, seconded by Cr Robinson, «« That Mr W. Strang's resignation as councillor for Awahou Riding be accepted with regret and that the County Clerk * take the necessary steps to fill the vacanoy. Proposed by Cr Ransom, seconded by Cr Hammond, " Tnat the agreement to sell the tram to Messrs Stuart and Hunt be further extended Bix months. Proposed by Cr Masters, seconded by Cr Robinson, "That the clerk write to Mr Simpson stating that theroad through sections 184 and 137 Matihiwi was given in exchange for part of MoDonell's road. Proposed by Cr Robinson, seoonded by Cr Ransom, "That the tender of M. Boyle be accepted at 6s 9d per chain for Main Drain Road. r Proposed by Cr Ransom, seconded by Or Robinson, "That cheques ba given for balances of overdrawn aooounts at Bank of Australasia, Foxton, on 81st March, and that the Council make application for an overdraft limit of £1600 for the year 81st Maroh, 1897, and tbat the Chairman, Cr Hammond and the Treasurer sign an application to that effect. Proposed by Cr Masters, seconded by Or Robinson, That tenders be oalled for about 40 chains . on McDonell's Line, tenders to be in by noon of April 17th, to be considered by a committee consisting of Cr Masters and the Chairman. — Advocate.
