Senor Canovas, the Spanish Premier, is inviting subscriptions to a 6 per cent popular war loan of six million dollars per month until July. The Dongola Expedition will number 8000 troops. The North Staffordshire Regiment replaces the Rangers, and the. expedition starts on Friday up the Nile to AVady-Halfra. Thence it will march to Dongola. Numbers of officers and men engaged in the Ashanti expedition have volunteered for service. Count Goluchowski, Minister of Foreign Affairs, is satisfied that the Triple Alliance is unimpaired. He also feels assured that the German relations with Great Britain are excellent.
