Our public men have been in formed that the long promised exper will be amongst us_ on Saturda afternoon. Seeing th number of months that have elapsei it is amusing to find the " expert ' is so well known a gentleman as M MoKerrow, and one so well qualifle< for the duty. The choice is so goo< that the wonder is, why was he no thought of before ? The busines of the townspeople is of course no to visit the sins ot the Governmen upon their officer, but to meet hin at his convenience and prove to hit! the importance this railway ii to be to us, and not only us, but t< all the country through which th< line will pass, and to the colony a the north and south of the line Were it a question of asking th< Government to find the money foi the work hesitation might be pardonable, but where it is simply a qnes tion of sanctioning a large expendl ture of foreign capital upon a usefu colonial work, the hesitation to gran! such permission is unaccountable We have no doubt but that the Mayor and the Committee appointed to act with him will have plenty oi telling points to lay before Mi McKerrow. It is understood that all interested in the formation of this line should, if they conveniently can, join the business people in meeting the Government's representative.
