The Deputation to Wellington.
Yesterday the deputation from the Borough Council comprising His Worship the Mayor and Councillors Walsh and Hennessy, were introduced to the Minister of Lands by Mr Fred Pirani, M.H.B. for the Palnierston electorate. The deputation went down to interview Ministers as to purchasing the Motoa estate for small settlements and also to set aside a piece of land at the mouth of the river for a health resort. Mr Pirani pointed out the position very clearly and asked the Minister for Lands to agree to the proposed purchase. The Minister promised to bring the question forward at the nest meeting of the new Realisation Board which meets on Monday next, and be will, should the Board re* commend it, send a Oommistionor to make a report on the estate. To avoid any mistake the Minister undertook that the Commissioner should be personally conducted over the property by the Mayor. The Minister noticed that the report of the previous Commissioner was not so much against the purchase of the estate but as against the amount asked for by the company, and he also deemed the assessment to have been inada too high. The Minister for Lands also agreed to lease a portion of the Government lands at the mouth of the Manawatu river for sites for a sanitorium, if it was found possible. It is evident the deputation has succeeded in doing much useful work.
