A Negro Knight.

— ■ Referring to the list of Birthday honours, the London correspondent of the Argut remarks that a very in~ teresting personality among the new knights is Sir Samue] Lewis, mem* ber of the Legislative Council at Sierra Leone. "He is a pureblooded negre. A black knight reminds one of chessi Sit Samuel is one of the soundest lawyers and ablest pleaders in the empire. His wife is also of pure negro descent, daughter of another remarkably clever negro barrister and official, the late Hon W. Grant, of Lagos. Many coloursd British subjects, Asiatics and mulattos, have been knighted ; Sir S. Lewis, I fancy, is the first pure negro so honoured."
