An Enquiry.
Some few weeks ago Mr S. M. Baker complained of certain charges made by the bailiff, Constable Gillespie, in serving several summonses upon him and executing a distress, being, in fact, a charge of extortion and misconduct in the execution of his duty. The complaint further alleged grave irregularities in Con* stable Gillespie's conduct as clerk of the court and constable, * We are informed that Constable Gillespie has applied to the Stipendiary Magistrate under section 26 of " The Magistrate's Court Act, 1898 " to inquire into such matter in a summary way, and for that purpose " to summon and enforce the attendance of all necessary witnesses in like manner as the attendance of witnesses in aa action may be enforced." The Magistrate accepted this view and directed a hearing to be held on Saturday morning at 9 o'clock at the Courthouse, Foston, when all the charges will be carefully gone into. ____«______.
