Burnt to Death.
The body of Dr Lawson Heale, who left town on Wednesday to witness a large bush fire at Wai* mata Valley, was found charred almost beyond recognition. The doctor left Gisborne to visit the property owned by himself and Mr Fred Lysnar, to witness a good bash fire, which he had never seen before.
Shortly after the fire was lighted, the doctor was missed by his two companions, and a thorough search failed to discover him, but on Saturday morning his remains were found.
It ia assumed that whilst in the. act of lighting the fire he was seized with a fainting attack, caused by the heat. The body was discovered lying on its face, and from the position in which it lay it was evident that Dr Heale, when he succumbed, was battling against the smoke and fire which overcame him. Near his mouth were found the remains of his brandy flask, and near his hands they found his handkerchief, which had evidently been saturated with spirits from the flask. — Press Association.
