The Sale of Work.
The above is now a thing of the past, doubtless to the joy of the ladies who worked so hard and so well. Monday night found them busily engaged at the Town Hall in erecting and preparing the stalls and laying p!an3 for the morrow. Tuesday opened wet but later on grew fine. At 230 the proceedings opened by those present singing " All people that on earth do dwell." Mr Barnetfc then offered prayer, next Mr T. F. Gibson introduced Mr G. Nye to the audience, and after Mr Barnett had made a statement of the matter call* ing their attention that day, congra* tulating Mr Nye on his re-election to the Mayoralty, Mr Nye iff '■% Selt speech declared the sale open. A steady business was done during the day, while everybody ap« peared to enjoy themselves. The wonderings as to the reasonable prices were fully justified as jeyijdenced by the fact that by 10.80 scarcely a article remained unsold. At that hour the Minister called his worker-friends around him andtmade the announcement that the^cash takings from all sources were. £26 53 7d. Such a statement gaft£ graft joy to the workers, who. receiyed the thanks of the Chnrch 'Slid then thanked Heaven by heartily singing the Doxology. After discharging all just debts, the needec} sum £22 has been forwarded ibis day to the Treasurer of the P.M. Jubilee Loan Fund, Wellington, and the local church now ranks with the minority, i.e., the d/ebttes| ones. , To mention stall-holders and workers names would occupy a large, space, suffice it to say all the Methodist folk worked most willingly and well. To them and their ladydirectress Mrs Osborne, senior, great praise is due for their sucoasstul endeavours in so worthy a cause. .
