The New Hebrides.
. ■» The Revs. Paton and Watt have arrived at Sydney from the New Hebrides The former says there are ruiaoura amongst French residents that the islands of the group will be annexed by France before the end of the year. French colonisa- j Uon and trading companies are making* strong efforts to extend commercial relations, which to his mind, points to an attempt by local Frenchmen to have the islands under the French flag. He says it is of immense importance that the islands Bhould remain under the British flag as they complete the chain ftL,Bj:itish possessions in Australasian waters. If France annexes the group it will break the chain of secure harbors which would be of the utmost importance in the event of international difficulty . Rev. Watt views the matter in a similar light.
