Mr W. Fergus, with Cheque, Seabreeze and Dutchman, and Mr H Honnor, with Bloon.sbury and a four-year-old full sister to Seabreeae, are about to take up their quarters at Palmerston North. The racehorse Mahaki, entered for the New Zealand Cup, has returned to Gisborne. It is understood he will not be a starter for the big race. The ex-New Zealand gelding Dart, by Gipsy King— Treason, which ran second in the V.R.C. Grand National Steeplechase, was sold by auction in Melbourne to l^r S. Miller, of Mill Park, for 275 guineas. Bushboy was passed in at the sale for 250 guineas, while Vagrant was sold privately. Mr Wilaou has purchased the son of Carbine, Wallace, the Melbourne
Cup and Derby candidate. The price has tiot transpired, but it is a i large sum and subject to winning contingencies. After 70 to 40 had been accepted about him for the Derby. He. has been backed heavily for the Ctiji* finishing up equal favourite with Delaware at 100 to 9.
