Of Interest to Racing Clubs.
♦ A case of interest to racing clubs was heard at the Napier Court on Monday, when Mr H. Peters sued the Hawbe' Bjiy Jockey Club for the recovery of £70, .being the Valtte of the Maiden Steeplechase won by plaintiff's horse Austral at the MyinSer Meeting, 1894. The stake was withheld on a protest ofthe owner of the third horse on. the ground that Peters and his hprse were, on the un paii foifeib list, beiDg^pdebted to the Betfton Jockey Club to. the extent of «2 15s. Mr Wilford, of Wellington, app«ar«d for the plaintiff and Mr Cirpford for defendants. It was Contended for the plaintiff that the Beefton Jockey Club is not a Metro> pplttan Club within the meaning of fhe Gaming Act, and the publication p| the unpaid forfeit list appeared ifter the race had been decided. The defence was that the decision of the Jockey Club must be final and binding, which contention was upfcld by the Magistrate, who nonsuited plaintiff with costs.
