Some Newspaper Fortunes.
The £277,575 of Mr John Walter, of the Timet, is the largest personal estate left by any newspaper proprietor since the death of Mr Edward Llovd, in 1890. Mr Lloyd's fortune was" £568,022. recent years include those of Sir Edward Baines, of the Leeds Mercury ', who died in 1890 worth £165,818 ; Mr Peter Allen, of the Manchester Guardian, £147,817; Sir Thomas Sowler, of the Manchester Courier, £i07,000 ; Albert Levy, of the Daily niigrtipk, £87,662 } P. S. Maciver, Bristol, £84,068 ; and Henry Fraser Walter, whose will, disposing of £77,000, was proved only a year before that of his brother.
