New Zealand Dairy Union.

Mr James .Young, the general manager of the. New Zealand Dairy Union, has brought over with him from Australia a drip can used for mi^k testing purposes, and known ag V the drip can composite test." The test given by this can has been proved to be absolutely accurate, so accurate, indeed, that in Australia, where it has been used for the last four years, the amount of butter churned tallied exactly with the test, even in factories where thousands of gallons are put through every month. Tbtf can is bell-shaped, about 17 inches wide and 7£ inches deep. At the bottom is a strainer and immediately underneath % square outlet pipe through which tb^e milk esoapes into the receiving vat. In the centre of the outlet pipe is a small hole, about the size made by an ordinary two inch nail. The oan is hung on to the weighing vat, and as the milk runs through the outlet pipe a minute quantity drips through the hole into a small removable oan hung underneath. This milk is taken for a test of the quality of the whole, and it is at once poured into a bottle, graded to hold seven equal parts, or a week's Bupply. The bottle contains boracio acid to keep the milk from becoming thick, and each bottle is marked with the supplier's name. At the end of the week the seven days' tests are put through the Babcock tester, and the supplier is paid on the result. It is expected that the drip oan will give every satisfaction and do away with the cause of complaint which has hitherto existed. — M. Times.
