SANDON v. FOXTON.

Immediately after the above game, the return match between the senior clubs was played in the presence of a good number of spetitatttra. Following are the teams : — Sandon— Full-back, W. Mclntyre ; three quarters, Stewart, Sanson, Karion ; halves, Gertson, Whisker ; forwards, Penny, Williams >-.(£), McNab, George, Anderson, Martin, Bennet, J. Whisker. , Foxton— Full back, H/ SatiUli^^ three quarters, C. O'Loughlin, ' H..-* I Williams and Hanna ' (maori) ;

halves, 6. Chuck, H. Lyall } wing forwards, F. Tlfynne, R. Newth \ forwards, :O. Robinson, F. Armstrong, Av'Xtaimlar-, W. Liddell* P. Williams, W. Cook and P. Allan. Th% Sandon men were a fine muscular lodking lot of fellows and onlookers were, on seeing them, convinced .that Foxton was in for another beating. However, after a very fast game the result was : — Foxton three points, Sandon nil. FowMStindon the pick of the backs wdfcpapson, Gertson and Whisker, wMß«Martin, Williams and J. Whisker deserve special mention among the forwards. For the home team all played a rattling game and with more passing and combination among the backs this team would hold its own with any along the Wesfc Coast. Baville at full played a pretty game, his taking of the ball at times being quite a sight. H. Williams at three-quarter made one or two good runs but these never resulted in anything owing to the lack" of combination among the backs. Gt * Chuck, at half, was also in his best form. Both the wings, Thynne add Newth, played a good game and repeatedly smothered the opposing half-backs in their efforts to get the ball out to the three-quarters. Amdng the forwards 0. Robinson played a sterling game but mention must also be made of the good work puHn by Demlar, P. Williams and Liddell. The try scored by Lyall is due solely to the unselfish play of Liddell, who dribbled the ball up to the line, and then, thinking another player had a better chance, left it for him to score. W. Mclntyre captained the Sandon's and H. Lyall (in the absence of A. Sbadbolt) the home team. Mr Little acted as referee and Messrs Bowater and H. Blake as line umpires. The Sandon men were suitably entertained at the Post Office Hotel.
