The Kucheng Massacre.

A PLUCKY LITTLE GIRL. Further particulars of theKucheng massacre recount the pluoky conduct of the Rev Mr Ssewari's liutle girl, Kathleen. It appears on the day of the massacre it was the birthday of Herbert, one of the Stewart children, and the three eldest went away to the hills early in the morning, before their parents had risen, to gather wild flowers. As they were walking to the place to obtain the flowers they heard the noise of horns and drums. Thinking it was from a procession they ran to see it go by. On their meeting a crowd one of the men seized Kathleen by the hair and beat her. The others ran away screaming. Kathleen escaping ran home behind the others. They told their father, who was then up and dressed, what happened. He immediately went to Mrs Stewart's room, and this was the last seen of him. Kathleen hid under the bed, and Mildred, unable to do so, lay upon it. At that moment the supposed procession, which had followed the children very rapidly, entered the house. Mildred was attacked and wounded, but Kathleen was not discovered. Findthe house burning, Kathleen dragged Mildred off the bed and took her outside. She then went to the nursery and pulled the baby from under the body of the dead nurse. She next carried in safety one by one her two brothers, carrying each of the children a short distanoe in turn. She started for Miss Hartford's, andmeeta native half way induced him, after soma trouble, to help her get her wounded brothers and sisters to Miss Hartford's residence.
