» ■■ Mr McEwan, Chief Government Dairy Expert, addressed a meeting at the Temperance Hall, Campbell' town, on Wednesday afternoon, and a good number of milk suppliers were present. Mr Ransom occupied the chain He referred to the advantages of co operative dairying as against proprietary concerns, but said it was imperative for all interrested to work together, throwing aside all prejudices. The feeding of I animals was very important, and it was necessary to get the best breed |of cows. As to fodder, Indian corn was proved to produce the best quality of ensilage, and that hay or straw did not show satisfactory results. He also touched on the importance of .. stabling cows ip v winter, dairying all the year round* aeration of milk, paying for milk by the test, the preparation of silos, which should be airtight. In reply to a question he said that a fodder composed of Indian corn, sunflower heads and English horse beans was being tested in Canada, and so far had given good results. The feeding value of green oats was as good as ensilage, but the latter made from corn produced a greater yield per acre than the former. He considered that a refrigerator for the factory was an imperative necessity. At the conclusion of his tddress a vote of thanks was acc.rded to Mr McEwan.
