King Alexander of Servia and his swimming master were swept out to sea while bathing at Biarritz. The King, who exhibited great presence of mind, managed to save himself, but the attendant was drowned. The French press is greatly irritated at the prominence given in Germany this year to the fetes in commemoration of the Franco-Ger-man war. Chinese Christians in Fo-Kien have been brutally harried and their houses burned. The officials refused to interiere. Sixteen of the Kucheng rioters have been beheaded.
