Foxton Cricket Club.
The annual meeting of the Foxton Cricket Club was held in Whyte's Hotel on Tuesday evening. The attendance of members was com* paratively small but fully representa* tive. Mr J. Dudson occupied the chair. The Secretary, Mr \V. S, Stewart, submitted the annual re* port and balance-sheet which were adopted as read. The following is the Secretary's report : — Annual Beport op Foxton CtC» for Season 1894-6. Gentlemen,— l have pleasure in submitting to you the balanoe>shaet for the past season. You will probably be surprised as well as pleased to note that it shows a credit balance. During the season the Club played four challenge matches against Levin, Carnarvon (2), and Shannon, win* niug three of these and losing one. Owing to untoward circumstances the return matches with Levin and Shannon did not come off towards the end of the season the Levin club haviDg no ground to play on and the Shannon club having fallen to pieces. The depression in the flax business and indeed in all the industries of the district which was co keenly felt all through the season threw a damp on the spirit e^en of the most enthusiastic ; but, as the cloud is apparently lifting now, we look forward with some measure of confidence to a renewal of the palmy days of Foxton cricket in the coming season. I am authorised to state that a trophy for the best bowling average in not less than six challenge matches in the coining season has already been promised, and I have reason to believe that other trophies will in good time be forthcoming, I have the honour, etc, W. S. Stewart, Hon. Sec, Foxton, Aug. 26, 1895. The following officers were then duly elected for the forthcoming year :— President, Walter Robinson, Esq. ; Vice-Presidents, Messrs J. R. _ McMillan, C. F. K. England, J. B, * Stansell, W. B. Rhodes, W. Langdon ; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr W. S. Stowart ; Committep, Messrs J. Dudsnn, W. Ingram, C. A. Harrison, R, T. Betty, F. Martin, A. H, Arbon, and S. Ennis. Mr Harrison was appointed captain and Mr Betty vice-captain tor the coming Benson. Notification was given by the Secretary that three suitable trophies had been promised by Messrs J. R. McMillan, T, Mitchell, and another for the highest batting and bowling averages in not less than six (6) challenge matches, and for the best all-round member of the Olub. After making the n«ces» sary arrangements for the conduofc of affairs in the coming season the meeting closed with the usual courtesies to the chair. We are pleased to learn that the cricketing prospect is good, and we hope that the players will lose no time in taking to regular praotioe.
