The Times considers that Mr Chamberlain's new policy marks a fresh era in colonial history, and will prove of vital interest to British trade. The prospects of the wool market are considered very good, and experts anticipate another good rise this year, with an improving market in 1896. News has been received that the Mahomedan rebellion in the provinces of Kousu is spreading seriously. M*r Hogan, M.P., is asking Mr Chamberlain to favourably consider Central Queensland's request for separation. During the fire at Blackfriars a black mass, comprising many thousands of rat?, crossed the Thames and were drowned, as they failed to scale the Embankment. The Navy Estimates amount to £18,701,000. The outlay on ship building is placed at £5,898,642,---and on armaments at £730,000. Yarrow and Co. have built a torpedo boat destroyer, named the Sokol, for Russia, which has shown a speed of over 80 knots—the highest yet attained. A portion of the chickens by the steamer Damascus sold at Is lid, the ducks at 2s. and the turkeys at 6s 9d. Fifty crates of rabbits to arrive by the steamer Nineveh have been sold at Is each.
