Manawatu Rowing Club.
A meeting of. the above Club was held at' Whyte'a Hotel last night, Mr J. R. Stansell, the captain, occupying the chair. The minutes of the last- general meeting were read and confirmed. The balance sheet, which showed a sum in hand of £6 16s 9d, was submitted, and the annual report was next read as follows : — •" In presenting the sixth annual report and balance sheet to you the committee has much pleasure in congratulating you on the financial Boundn<jss-oi the Club. As you are all awar#the past year has been a very trying one throughout the colony, and in consequence the list of members has not been so large. In spite of the bad times the financial position of the Club is better than it has ever been. The liabilities being "nil" and the assets (after allowing £80 for depreciation in value and spending £25 on repairs and improvements), are £140 6s 9d. The plant has been overhauled and put in good working order, the pleaBure boats Nikau and Rata were both Bent to Mr Norton, of Wellington, who has made a splendid job of the repairs. They are now fit for a lot of work. The Easter floods finished the old staging by washing it away ; it was therefore necessary to put down a new landing, and the committee think you will agree that the present one is a great improvement on the old, as it reaches the water at low tide. The season opened with a handicap soulling race, Ist prize silver medal, 2nd prize, Club jersey. For this eight entries were received, and resulted in Edwin Ingram being firßt, M. 0. Bradbury second. Owing to the removal of several members, the pair-oared race fell through. The balance sheet, as compared with last year's, shows a falling off in receipts of only £1 18s 9d, and in h expenditure of 6s 2d. In conclusion the Committee trust that now the times appear to be improving, the membership will in* crease, and that the Club may have g prosperous season in every way.' 1 The report and balance sheet were adopted. The ejection of officers resulted as follows : — President, J. G. Wilson, M.H.R. ; . captain, J. B. Stansell ; vice-capt., rJ. H. Howan ; secretary, E. P. Gowles; treasurer, P. Curtis. The above were re-elected. Mr Bradbury was appointed an auditor, and the ballot for a committee resulted in the election of Rev. Gt. Aitken, Eure and Cook. Proposed by Mr 0. Robinson, seconded by Mr Bradbury, That the Committee be recommended to procure a boat similar to Nikau or Rata when in funds. Carried. A vote of thanks was passed to the secretary, Mr Cowles, also to the past officers. After the meeting the Committee met, and elected the following new memberg .—Messrs J. W. Walsh,
H. Austin, F. Armstrong, A. D. Spring, 0. F. K. England, M. Kebbell, A. 0. Thynne. It was reported that new sculls had been ordered. The Committee decided to arrange later on a round of sculling or handicap races.
