♦ ■ A committed meeting of the above was held on Thursday night at the Library Buildings. The following tenders were considered aud dealt with : — Forming and Claying the Lady's Mile : W. Dorothy, 28s per chain (accepted) ; John Anderson, 81s lOd, per chain ; Symona Bros., 84i per chain i Fencing Reserve: F. Martin, JS9 (accepted) ; Walsh & Howe, £9 Hi; H. Walls, £12 8a 6d. The Mayor proposed the following resolution, That this Council again draw the attention of the Go* vernment to the state of the Manawatu River, and regret that the Buggestions made by the Harbourmaster in June last re dredge has not been acted upon, and respectfully request that they will give the matter their immediate attention, as the state of the river is becoming so serious as to stop all navigation, the consequent loss to the port and railway being some 400 tons of cargo per week. The Mayor informed the Council that be had called the attention Ol the department to the state of the river some time back, but since doing so several Nelson boats had been in and out of the river.
