The English wheat market is steady, the Continental firm, and the American declining. At the tallow sales 800 casks were offered, of which 600 were sold. Medium mutton brought 21s Gd ; and medium beef, Ufa 3d. At ihe sale of sheepskins 3778 were offered of which 8616 were sold. The market showed a general advance of £d to |d, while good short wools sometimes brought fd more. Australian butter is quoted at 80s to 90s-. A pdrtiori of the Quedri&land cattle by the Ebhuca brought s&d. Britain will require 24,000,000 quarters of wheat before September of next year. This is twice the quantity America can export to all countries! Parliament was opened on Monday at 2 o'clock. So great was the interest shotf n by tneiubers and the public that some people waited at the doors from 5 a m. in order to secure seats. The Right Hon. W. C. Gully, member for Carlisle, was re-elected Speaker unopposed. The Government propose to expend £60,000 for an additional supply of cordite; Great Britain has protested against the cession by China of a portion of Kinhung, which extends the French territory in Further India to the Mekong, and practically abolishes the buffer State intended to prevent the two European Powers coming into contact. In Mekong the joint Commission representing Great Britain and France has been negotiating regarding the buffer State. The dispute has been referred to headquarters. The Vicar of Leeds has been appointed Bishop of Rochester.
