A Lady's Letter.
Wellington, June 27, 1895. The Club ball given on Tuesday night to the Earl and Countess of Glasgow, was a very brilliant affair, all arrangements being carried out beautifully. All the large rooms, veraudali3 and landings were artistically decorated with evergreens, ferns and flowers of all kinds, and the . supper was all that could be desired, Sh rfc'y after nine o'olook, their Excellences arrived, being met at the entrance by a piper in his native costume. The President and bis sister, Mr and Miss Pearce received at the top of the first flight of stairs. Lord Glasgow danced in the first set of Lancers with Mrs H. D. BbII (wife of the Vice-President) and Lady Gla?gow with Mr Pearoe. Lady Glasgow wore; a lqvelraowif of white satin trimmed "with of forget me-notß . and velvet of the same shade ; Lady Alice Boyle wore a pretty pink gauze gown ; Miss Pearce, handsome black gown trimmed with white lace ; Mrs Foster-Goring, very handsome black v gown with panels of white satin and jet ; Miss Crace looked very well in a soft white gown trimmed with lace insertion and ribbons; Mrs (Dr) Walli3, pretty gown of pale yellow brocade; Lady Buckley, black moire trimmed with brown and. yellow chrysanthemums; Mrs Bell wore a very pretty gown of sea green corded silk, the bodice trimmed with lace ; Mr 3A. Pearce, handsome black velvet gown much trimmed with white silk and chiffon ; Mrs Johnston, black and white brocaded gown trimmed with jet ; Mrs 0. Johnston, very pretty blue brocade :• gown trimmed with lovely lace; Miss Seddon wore a pretty white silk gown and her sister wore deep pink silk ; Miss Buller wore a rery pretty gown of coral pink corded silk; Mrs Fox, handiome blue brocade gown trimmed with pink velvet; her sister Miss Bussell (Hawkes Bay), wore a pretty lemon coloured brocade ; Miss Bennett (Bulls) very handsome gown of very pale silver grey brocade. A large afternoon " At Home^was given yesterday by Mrs Graoja " in her house in Hawkestone Street. The house was prettily deooraied chiefly with camellias. Mrs Grace received in a very . handsome gown of black velvet wiitt white satin revers ; Miss Gracdi wore a black skirt and pretty white silk blouse. Among the many guests I noticed Bishop and Mft^ : Wallis, the latter wearing a black silk gown, velvet cape trimmed with jet and pink and black bonnet. Capt. and Miss Russell, Mrs and the Misses Seddon, Mr, Mrs and Miss ' Millar, Mr and Mrs G. Hutchison, Mr and Mrs C. Johnston, the latfcar wearing a pretty brown gown with. velvet bodice, dcru lace bonnet trimmed with holly berries; Col.
and Mi's Fox, Mr and Mrs W. Johnston, Miss Johnston who wore a stylish black gown trimmed with lace, small velvet toque trimmed with fur and violet, her sister wore a neat fawn tweed gown and silk vest. Invitations have been issued for another dance at Government House Jor July 4th and Mrs Friend is ' giving a Ball on the 9th in the Masonic Hall, so you see we are getting quite gay. Great" preparations are going on for the Ward Reception which is evidently to be a very grand affair. I believe the banquet is to be held in Thomas' Hall and that tickets will be issued to those wishing to watch the proceedings from the gallery. SIGNA.
